Start thinking “Paddles Up!”

It isn’t too early to start thinking about our annual “Paddles Up!” fundraiser, on March 24 from 4-8 pm at O’Gara’s Garage in St. Paul. If you have an item or service you’d like to donate for our Garage Raffle baskets, let us know.

Support the Divas!

As many of you know, the Cities 97 Sampler uses the money made from sales proceeds to grant requests from local charities. Nearly $800,000 was raised from the sale of Sampler 23. We applied for one of their grants.

Our grant request stressed the importance of breast cancer awareness and fitness in preventing recurrence with specific outreach to the under-identified Asian community of St. Paul.  This would allow us to really build a presence in our race at Lake Phalen by sponsoring the registration fees for up to six survivor teams as well as provide some training.

Currently, Cities 97 is asking to let them know where we see need in the community and what causes are most important to us.  They have a survey that everyone can complete.  Please consider completing this survey to help our chances of
receiving a grant.

Please go to:

http://www.cities97.com/pages/redirect/120711_SamplerSurvey.html.

You will see a list of causes.

Go to the last one called “Is there another cause that we didn’t list that is important to you?”

Enter “Dragon Divas – breast cancer awareness and fitness in preventing recurrence with specific outreach to under-identified Asian community of St Paul”

Complete the other causes (if you wish).

Press ‘Continue’ button to submit your survey.

You can complete this survey multiple times! Feel free to tell others about this
survey!!

Thank you for your support!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Dragon Divas are always thankful for every day we get to spend with family and friends, and we want to wish you all a very happy day of Thanksgiving. Take time to give those hugs, share those laughs, enjoy those crazy moments, for those make the memories in which we all live on.

We’re always interested in current research around breast cancer treatments, and we definitely perked up when we heard Avastin was pulled from the FDA approval track for treatment of metastatic breast cancer. This Q&A posted to the blog, Take As Directed, is one of the best we’ve seen that review the decision and discuss it in a way that is understandable.

In Memoriam – Diva Rose

Rose Swenson

Diva Rose at the International Dragon Boat Festival for Breast Cancer Survivors, Peterborough, Ontario, June 2010

It is with great sadness that the Dragon Divas say goodbye to board member and teammate Rose Swenson. Rose lived with cancer for 15 years, and we’re pleased that she chose to share her energy and presence with us, joining the Dragon Divas in 2009. Rose passed away on Saturday, November 19th.

We praise her loudly.
